In a world of constant financial flux the Economist has known of a long recognised constant, The Big Mac.
By using the figures compiled by UBS in their publication Prices and Earnings, most famously utilised in the Economist's Big Mac Index, I devised a simple formula through which one can determine the amount of time people around the world must work to earn £1.
I will take the variable of the £BM, or price of a Big Mac, as being £2.19 the current price in the UK. Min per BM relates to the amount of time needed to earn a Big Mac in that particular city.
Each of the clocks in the piece are wound forward by the amount of time needed to earn £1, from the current time in the UK.
Using the stickers provided you may make your own judgement as to city you believe them to be.
FIFTEEN TO ONE
Hurrah!
The recession is here.
The lies and cheats, rip-offs and knock offs, tightening purse strings and Sainsbury’s basics dining are now part and parcel of the hand-to-mouth lifestyle which we will come to live by.
However
We must come to see this time as an opportunity.
We are not victims but champions of the downturn, Gladiators of recession, Heroes of HSBC.
And so….
A collection of artists have come together to embrace the £1.
Invited to create work on the theme of 'value' 15 artists have all produced new works for this incredible space.
Artists include:
Luke Allder / Ida Ballerini / James Bulley / Barra Collins / Holly Davies / Chloe Dawson/ Jon Francis / Patrick Hackett / Joe Hales / Sebastian Harding / Alice Lindsay / Elizabeth Lindsay / Holly Murdoch / Casey Jane Partridge / Genevieve Rainbow / David Shearing / Paulina Shvetsova / Skip! / Billy Woods /
